Philanthropic children across America join forces with Leesa to make a difference in their communities
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Oct. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today on World Homeless Day, Leesa Sleep and Aly Raisman are taking the opportunity to raise awareness about homelessness in America and how everyone can help through Leesa's One-Ten Program.
The day kicks off with a mattress giving event at Bowery Mission with Leesa supporter, Gold Medalist Aly Raisman.
Leesa is also amplifying their year-round giving model, "One-Ten," (which donates one mattress to a charitable partner for every 10 sold) to "Ten-Ten." For every mattress Leesa sells on October 10, they'll donate a matching mattress.
Leesa is also highlighting the work that wonderful young people across the country are doing to impact homelessness in their communities. To support their efforts, Leesa will be hosting a series of mattress donations in these youths' hometowns. Leesa will be engaging four young social changemakers at events across the country, like 11-year-old Jahkil Jackson, who is donating 150 "blessing bags" full of necessities like hygiene items to shelters in Chicago, IL. Other Leesa social changemakers include youths in Baltimore, Boston and Salt Lake City. Leesa will be giving them mattresses and funds to further their work. Each social changemaker will partner with Leesa at a giving event in their hometown, with more than 750 mattresses being given on this day through their efforts.
Brand ambassador and Gold Medalist Aly Raisman will be joining Leesa's efforts on World Homeless Day, teaming up with volunteers at The Bowery Mission in New York City to donate nearly 100 mattresses.
"I am proud to join Leesa to help raise awareness surrounding homelessness as it affects so many Americans," says Raisman. "I have witnessed firsthand how Leesa's giving program - One-Ten – benefits so many in need and I am hopeful that we can continue to help reduce bedlessness with Leesa's commitment to donating one mattress for every mattress sold on World Homeless Day."
Leesa sees a bed as more than just a place to sleep, it should be the one place in your life where you can switch off in an always-on world. A place to rest, rejuvenate and reset for the challenges and excitement of the day ahead. Leesa believes that a well-rested world is a better one and that rest is not a privilege, but a right. This is why Leesa has chosen to build their company around a social mission to help those seeking refuge from homelessness, domestic risk and human trafficking.
More than 500,000 Americans will be looking for a place to sleep tonight: women and children, families, sons and daughters, many of whom are employed, but unable to lift themselves out of poverty. All over America, there are incredible organizations that provide shelter as well as permanent and temporary housing. Leesa's goal is to ensure that they can all offer a comfortable bed for every person who walks through their doors. That's what Leesa means when they say they want to end bedlessness in America. Since Leesa was founded in 2015, the company has donated one mattress for every ten sold through its One-Ten Program. To-date, more than 30,000 mattresses have been given to more than 1,000 nonprofits who support those seeking to improve their lives. These donations have resulted in more than 10,000,000 nights of better rest for people who need it most.
"We're engaging in this initiative because we feel that it's the responsibility of private sector businesses to help solve problems of national concern. That's what being a B-Corp is all about," notes David Wolfe, co-founder and CEO of Leesa. "It's our responsibility to be a force for good through business. At Leesa, giving is a privilege that we never take for granted."
