Arbitration professionals across three continents earn honors in first edition of expert witness rankings by Who's Who Legal
DEVON, Pa., Jan. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Following the unveiling last week of the first-ever Who's Who Legal list of expert witnesses, we thought it might be a good time to introduce you to the nine LECG (Nasdaq: XPRT) experts ranked by the service. Of all the major expert-witness firms listed in the report, LECG has the second-largest contingent of experts represented among all professional services firms globally.

- Richard Boulton, global head of LECG's finance and accounting services segment, which includes the forensic accounting, damages and intellectual property, electronic discovery, financial services and healthcare practices. - David Ashton, director of LECG's London office, has been responsible for both audit and financial consulting for a range of clients and industries including the construction, shipping, oil and gas, and chemical industries. Mr. Ashton has specialized in claims consulting, post-acquisition disputes, fraud investigations, construction claims, intellectual property disputes, professional negligence claims, insurance claims, and expert determinations.
- International arbitration group co-chair Manuel Abdala is based in Washington, DC. Dr. Abdala, who holds a PhD in economics, has provided written and oral expert testimony in more than 50 international arbitration cases, many of them involving treaty disputes between private investors and governments on topics related to damage valuation, as well as opinions on regulatory conduct vis-a-vis investors' expectations.
- Pablo T. Spiller serves as co-leader of LECG's international arbitration practice, and is based in Oakland, Calif. Mr. Spiller has consulted on issues of regulation for both private businesses and public agencies in the U.S. and abroad, and testified as a valuation expert in numerous international arbitration cases. He has consulted extensively with the World Bank, United Nations, and the Inter-American Development Bank.
- Phoenix, Ariz.-based managing director Thomas Kabat specializes in real estate consulting, valuation, and the assessment and quantification of damages in real estate litigation matters. As a real estate consultant, appraiser, and economist, Mr. Kabat has valued and evaluated properties in all major US metropolitan area markets and property of all types with emphasis on those influenced by complex environmental, regulatory, and physical conditions.
- LECG's Europe Chief Executive Officer Jorge Padilla, based in Brussels, advises clients on a variety of competition policy and intellectual property issues. Dr. Padilla, who holds a doctorate in economics, has advised on various cases and given expert testimony before the Cypriot, Dutch, French, German, Irish, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and UK competition authorities, as well as in cases before the European Commission.
- David Sevy, managing director of LECG's Paris office, is an expert in the European competition policy group. Mr. Sevy has an extensive experience advising clients on a variety of competition policy issues covering sectors as diverse as oil, consumer goods, book publishing, music, industrial gases, outsourcing services, transport, telecommunications, energy and financial services.
- A director in LECG's London office, Mike Pilgrem has been appointed as expert witness and prepared reports in matters before arbitral tribunals and the U.K.'s High Court. Mr. Pilgrem has provided advice about the value of companies and their intellectual property or other intangible assets in a variety of contexts - for sale or purchase, for fiscal purposes, for financial statement disclosure, and in disputes.
- Senior managing economist Marcelo Schoeters serves in LECG's Buenos Aires office. Mr. Schoeters has given advice to both public and private institutions on issues including firm valuation, tariff analysis, privatization processes, rural electrification, risk management, and regulation. He has also served as economic advisor to Argentina's Secretariat of Energy on the liberalization of the power sector in the 1990s.
