SHORT HILLS, N.J., Oct. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving quality of life for people living with paralysis, has an interactive forum that allows individuals with paralysis or their caretakers to ask paralysis-related questions they may have to a certified rehabilitation registered nurse. This nurse is Linda M. Schultz, Ph.D., CRRN, a leader and provider of rehabilitation nursing for over 30 years, and a friend of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation for close to 20. Aside from simply answering questions, her role is to guide discussions in an educational manner, give functional advice that applies to real-world application, and provide a "how-to" on incorporating helpful improvements into daily life.
Nurse Linda is available every Wednesday from 8-9 PM ET in the Reeve Foundation online community to address issues and questions on living with paralysis. These webchats are live conversations where you have the opportunity to receive direct feedback through the Q&A chatbox. Additionally, if you miss a webchat, you have the ability to go to the Nurse Linda webchats page on the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation Youtube page to watch archived webchats. One the last Wednesday of each month from 3-4PM ET, Nurse Linda also provides a webinar on a paralysis-related topic. She takes call-in questions at that time.
Community members will have the opportunity to see Nurse Linda speak in person at the Abilities Expo in San Mateo on October 27. The presentation, titled Dealing with Practical Issues due to Spinal Cord Injury or Paralysis will open with specific activities to avoid secondary complications from paralysis. The emphasis of the session is about ways to improve health and deal with common problems using readily available resources and how to request additional support. There will also be a Q&A session afterwards to entertain individual questions about mobility, bowel and bladder function, skin care, wellness, and other healthcare issues. This will include ways to improve complications of aging with paralysis.
