"With the 2010 toys, we focused on creating ways for children to get engaged and 'play' their way to preschool readiness," said Craig Hendrickson, senior vice president and chief product officer. "Kids learn by having fun. And because each child is unique, we offer a range of experiences, from early language toys to 'just like grown-ups' activities, both key to children's development."
Scout Gets Kids on the Road to Reading
With Twinkle Twinkle Little Scout and Twinkle Twinkle Little Violet, babies from birth to 36 months can hear gentle first words and counting rhymes while snuggling with a cozy friend. Twinkle Twinkle Little Scout is curled up on a crescent moon that glows softly, and his fleece blanket is removable for washing. When naptime comes, parents can turn on soothing nature sounds, to help babies fall asleep.
When little ones are ready to explore books, faithful learning friend Scout is there again, in My First Book: Good Night Scout and My First Book: Hide-and-Seek at the Farm, for children from six to 36 months old. The books' sturdy, chunky pages flip just like those in "big kid" books, with sounds and surprises at every turn. And when naptime comes, parents can activate a nightlight and lullabies. Best of all, both books also work with Tag™ Junior, a touch-enabled book "pal" designed for children from two to four years old. Every tap of Tag Junior to the pages brings more of the story to life, keeping kids engaged as they grow.
Toddlers can take Scout to "the office," too, with the new My Own Leaptop, for two- to four-year-old kids. Playful Scout and his buddy Violet guide little "techies" through learning letters, making music and exploring the animal kingdom. Parents can connect My Own Leaptop to the computer to personalize play by entering a child's name, "sending" preset email messages from family members and selecting favorite songs. Then when kids turn on My Own Leaptop, they are greeted by name and have mail waiting, for a play and learning experience all their own.
Learning Begins with Everyday Play
LeapFrog knows that kids like to play in a variety of ways -- and that all kids like to do what their moms and dads do. LeapFrog introduces its "Everyday Play" line with two new age-appropriate ways for kids to do what they love and practice preschool skills along the way. Cook & Play Potsy gets toddlers from 12 to 36 months old learning about healthy eating, opposites, colors and counting, while they pop ingredients into their talkative stovetop friend. Fun sound effects, music and rhymes add to the culinary adventure every time kids use the spoon to stir things up.
Fix & Learn Speedy, for children from 18 to 36 months old, introduces kids to ABCs and 123s while they use the screwdriver and wrench to get Speedy on the road again. Sound effects in two modes -- racing and fixing -- make for a realistic "pit crew" experience, and songs about colors and shapes add to the fun.
As with all LeapFrog products, parents can see the skills their children are building during play with their Learning Toys by visiting the online LeapFrog Learning Path.
