LeapFrog And Olympic Gold-Medal Figure Skater Kristi Yamaguchi Partner To Raise Awareness Of Early Childhood Literacy During National Reading Month
Throughout the month of March, LeapFrog's "20/20 Reading Challenge" donates books to The Kristi Yamaguchi Always Dream Foundation when parents pledge to read to their child 20 minutes a day.
EMERYVILLE, Calif., March 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: LF), the leader in educational entertainment, and celebrated Olympic Gold-Medalist Figure Skater Kristi Yamaguchi announced a partnership to raise awareness of the importance of reading to young children with the launch of the "20/20 Reading Challenge."
LeapFrog has provided award-winning reading solutions for children for the past 20 years, including the LeapReader Learn to Read and Write system. To kickoff its 20th anniversary celebration, LeapFrog has created the "20/20 Reading Challenge" which simply asks parents, grandparents and caretakers to spend 20 minutes each day reading to their child during the month of March. For each pledge received LeapFrog will donate 20 children's books to The Kristi Yamaguchi Always Dream Foundation, up to $5 million dollars' worth of books. To participate, consumers can visit www.leapfrog.com/Challenge.
"As a mom, it has always been part of our family's routine to spend time reading together. Research has shown that children who were read to at least three times a week by a family member were almost twice as likely to score in the top 25 percent in reading compared to children who were read to less than three times a week*," said Kristi Yamaguchi. "So many children are showing up to their kindergarten classrooms unprepared for school, and if this little bit of time every day can make a difference in my children's future academic success and confidence, I am all in!"
The Kristi Yamaguchi Always Dream Foundation is an organization founded to inspire underserved children to reach for their dreams through innovative reading programs and by advancing the cause of early childhood literacy. As an accomplished children's book author, athlete and mom, Kristi's passion for reading ignited the Foundation's commitment to early childhood literacy.
"We could not think of a better way to kick off our 20th anniversary than partnering with Kristi for National Reading Month to raise awareness on the importance of early literacy. This is such a natural fit as Kristi's and our missions to help children reach their potential are inherently aligned," said Greg Ahearn, chief marketing officer at LeapFrog. "Twenty years ago, a dad started LeapFrog from a desire to help his child learn to read. Since then, we have created life-changing educational entertainment solutions that help children develop a life long love of learning."
