LeanIn.Org Launches New Podcast "Tilted" Exploring the Uneven Playing Field Women Face
PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, LeanIn.Org is launching a new podcast, Tilted, which examines the gender bias that lurks in unexpected places, the impact it has on our everyday lives, and what happens when women lean in and start driving change.
Hosted by Lean In president and co-founder, Rachel Thomas, Tilted features conversations with thought leaders and people on the front lines discussing everything from how the likability bias hurts women in politics to how to raise confident girls to how gender bias in artificial intelligence threatens to cement today's inequalities into the technology of the future.
Podcast guests include Sheryl Sandberg, Serena Williams, Eva Longoria, Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine team, Phoebe Robinson, Joanna Coles, Bozoma Saint John, and members of the U.S. National Women's Soccer Team, among others.
"Through my work at Lean In, I've had the opportunity to meet and learn from so many amazing women, and men, who are working to fight bias and level the playing field for women and other underrepresented groups," said Rachel Thomas, president of LeanIn.Org. "As the host of Tilted, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share some of their amazing stories and insights with a wider audience, and to add to the conversation around what it will take to move us closer to equity."
Tilted's debut episode takes a closer look at the underrepresentation of women and people of color in Hollywood and what industry leaders like Reese Witherspoon and Eva Longoria are doing to change it. Thomas talks to Eva Longoria on the set of Grand Hotel, discusses the underrepresentation of women and people of color in media with USC's Stacy Smith, and moderates a panel of showrunners and experts from Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine on the importance of representation in media, the challenges women face in Hollywood and how that might finally be changing.
Other early episodes include a panel featuring Sheryl Sandberg (Lean In founder and Facebook COO), Phoebe Robinson ("2 Dope Queens" and "Sooo Many White Guys" host), Joanna Coles (former Hearst Chief Content Officer) and Sean Fennessey (The Ringer editor-in-chief). The panelists field questions submitted by men on everything from when it's ok to make sex jokes at work to if being "likeable" really matters.
Tilted's host, Rachel Thomas, has led Lean In since its founding in 2013. Under Thomas's leadership, Lean In supports a community of more than two million women and men in 160 countries and runs public awareness and education programs that reach millions of people each year. Prior to co-founding LeanIn.Org, Thomas co-founded and served on the executive teams of several consumer technology startups. Thomas frequently writes and speaks on issues that affect women and advises several women's advocacy groups. Thomas is also one of the authors of the Women in the Workplace study, the largest study of its kind on the state of women in corporate America.
"Tilted" is available for free streaming or download on iTunes.
