Leading Treatment Center Cliffside Malibu Launches Free Webinar Series on Drug and Alcohol Addiction
Noted Expert and Best-Selling Author Dr. Constance Scharff, PhD, will host program covering wide range of topics about substance misuse
LOS ANGELES, July 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Cliffside Malibu, one of the nation's preeminent, evidence-based alcohol and drug addiction treatment centers, has launched a free, live online seminar series to educate the public about substance abuse and how to seek quality help. Dr. Constance Scharff, PhD, a best-selling author and frequent contributor to Psychology Today and The Huffington Post, will host the weekly webinar.
The webinar is scheduled every Tuesday at 6 pm PT, beginning July 25th. To access the live webcast, the public should visit https://www.youtube.com/user/CliffsideMalibu. Following the webcast, the viewing public may ask Dr. Scharff questions via live chat.
"We're on track to lose 59,000 people to overdose, as we did in 2016 and another 88,000 to alcohol abuse this year. We have to take steps now to change that. No more waiting on the government. I'm taking action, working directly with struggling families to help them get their loved ones the care that they need."
The series, "The Addiction Treatment Show," will tackle a wide range of timely topics related to the nation's number one health problem: the ever-worsening drug and alcohol addiction crisis. Drug overdoses are now a leading cause of death among Americans under 50, according to the latest statistics from CDC.
"A big part of the problem is a lack of knowledge. There are a lot of misconceptions about addiction," says Dr. Scharff, who also serves as the research director of Cliffside Malibu. "I want to help families to know how to get help and also how to care for themselves when a loved one is using."
Each live webinar program will be posted subsequently on YouTube. Upcoming topics will be: mothers and addiction, the impact of addiction on the brain, setting boundaries with those who have an addiction, how long should rehab last, and the particular dangers of addiction among youth.
"There is good addiction treatment available. People often simply don't know what to look for with regard to substance abuse treatment or how to help a loved one who is dying in front of them. We can change that."
