Leading Tax Attorneys Christopher Roman and Nick Thornton Join Fried Frank's International Tax Practice
NEW YORK, Oct. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP announced today that Christopher Roman and Nick Thornton have joined the Firm as partners in the Tax Practice, with Mr. Roman residing in the New York office and Mr. Thornton residing in the London office.

Mr. Roman's practice focuses on tax aspects of alternative investment funds and fund-related M&A, with significant experience in both corporate transactional work and matters involving real estate and real estate investment trusts (REITs). In addition to representing both sponsors and investors in fund formations, he has extensive experience representing investors in secondary sales of interests in private funds on both the sell-side and buy-side, as well as investors and sponsors in debt and equity co-investment transactions. Mr. Roman also has significant experience involving REITs, including representation of companies and underwriters in REIT formations, securities offerings, debt financings, asset acquisitions, dispositions, M&A and other transactions.
Before joining Fried Frank, Mr. Roman was a partner in the Tax Department of King & Spalding's New York office. He received an LLM from New York University School of Law in 1995, a JD from The University of Akron School of Law in 1994 and a BS from Indiana University in 1991. Mr. Roman is the chairman of the American Bar Association's REIT Committee and member of the New York City Bar Association's Committee on the Taxation of Business Enterprises.
Mr. Thornton advises clients on the tax aspects of a range of business matters – particularly those with an international dimension – including M&A, corporate restructurings, securities offerings, financings and fund formation. In the private equity space, he has significant experience in fund structuring and in related structuring of incentive arrangements among sponsor team members.
Mr. Thornton was most recently head of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP's London Tax Practice. From 2005 to 2010, he was a senior associate in Fried Frank's London Tax Group and worked with a number of Firm clients such as Aleris, Goldman Sachs, Highbridge, Rio Tinto and Virgin Media.
Mr. Thornton received an LLB from City University in London in 1995 and a BA, with honors, from the University of Oxford, New College in 1993. He was awarded a Legal Practice Course distinction by the College of Law. He is a solicitor and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He has consistently been recognized by Chambers as a leading lawyer in Tax.
