Leading Sports Marketing Executive Patrick Byerly Joins LA Marathon As Director Of Sales & Marketing
LOS ANGELES, June 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on the momentum of the LA Marathon's growing national and international stature, the race has added one of the industry's top sports marketing and sponsorship executives to its team. Patrick Byerly, formerly with New York Road Runners (NYRR), joins LA MARATHON LLC as Director of Sales and Marketing with responsibility for developing sponsor relationships and creating new marketing initiatives and activations with existing sponsors throughout all events.
"Having someone of Patrick's stature in this important executive role demonstrates the growth of the LA Marathon and the tremendous opportunities we see ahead to put our event on a world stage," said LA MARATHON LLC Chief Operating Officer Nick Curl. "Patrick is a leading business development and sports marketing executive who has what it takes to enhance our existing partnerships and forge new relationships with top-tier organizations."
He joins the LA Marathon after serving as NYRR's Director of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships, the organization responsible for operating the ING New York City Marathon. In that role, he managed all corporate partnerships for the ING New York City Marathon and other NYRR events. He led the renewal and sales process for the NYRR's corporate partners, and also implemented Subway's activation for the ING New York City Marathon, later recognized as the 2010 Sponsor of the Year by the Sports Business Journal.
Byerly has held several other executive marketing positions at national organizations including LPGA Tour Professionals, where he directed multi-market branding and marketing strategies to generate exposure for players and partners. At Southwest Airlines, he oversaw all sponsorships and promotions for ten different markets, helping to increase revenue by $4.6 million annually and secure Southwest's position as the top airline in the State of Florida.
"I am thrilled to join an event with as much national and international promise as the LA Marathon," Byerly said. "The Stadium to the Sea course is world class, and the potential is right in front of us to put the LA Marathon in an elite international class for many years to come. The LA Marathon is relatively young at 26, and I believe its future is incredibly bright."
