SAN DIEGO, March 10, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Magento (an Adobe company), has announced that all versions of Magento 1 will reach end of life in June 2020. The number of impacted online stores is estimated to be between 200,000 and 240,000 and collectively generate billions of dollars in gross merchandise volume (GMV), according to published reports. If these merchants do not act by the cut-off date, they will be vulnerable to serious hacks and security breaches.
Consumers who shop from merchants that stay on Magento 1.x after June 2020 will be at risk of identity theft and should be cautious to only buy from properly secured eCommerce websites. This comes on the heels of an FBI warning in October 2019 around eSkimming and the effort taken by criminals to exploit eCommerce security leaks.
According to a 2019 Trustwave report, there have been nearly 50,000 compromised eCommerce sites since 2015, the majority of which have been targeted at those on the Magento platform. Without security patches and fixes from Magento beginning this summer, there is reason to believe that this number will significantly increase.
In response to this pressing concern, BVA is launching a new "accelerator" to quickly and cost effectively migrate Magento 1.x merchants to Shopify Plus. This offering by BVA will save merchants an estimated 50% in both time and expense as compared to replatforming to Magento 2, and an estimated 30% compared to a standard replatform to Shopify Plus.
"With the end of Magento 1 quickly approaching, merchants need to act fast or they are going to become victims of security vulnerabilities," said Michael Cassidy, CEO at BVA. "Merchants should use this opportunity to secure and enhance their site. By migrating to Shopify Plus, companies can reduce expense while at the same time, innovating faster and better. This is the perfect chance to seize an opportunity during a time of concern."
With the largest and most versatile client roster in the industry, BVA has launched more leading brands on Shopify Plus than any other agency in the world. Included in this list are numerous replatforms from Magento to Shopify Plus for high-profile direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands, such as Rebecca Minkoff, Draper James (a Reese Witherspoon brand), Show Me Your Mumu, CocoaVia (a MARS, Inc. brand), Bombas, and Black Halo.
Leveraging their unmatched expertise, BVA's new "Magento 1 to Shopify Plus Accelerator" offers an efficient, affordable, and future-proofed solution for merchants facing an inevitable replatform. In three months, merchants moving off Magento 1.x can have a secure and functional digital storefront on Shopify Plus without any interruption to customers or revenue.
