Leading Patent Attorney Jeffrey Lewis Joins Fried Frank's Intellectual Property Litigation Practice
NEW YORK, March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP announced today that Jeffrey I.D. Lewis has joined the Firm as a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice, resident in the New York office. Mr. Lewis concentrates on patent litigation and also handles trademark matters, as well as other intellectual property and general litigation. A trained chemical engineer and registered patent attorney, Mr. Lewis represents both plaintiffs and defendants in a range of technology-related sectors but focuses primarily on pharmaceuticals, chemicals, biotechnology and life sciences; he has represented pharmaceutical innovators in numerous Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) patent litigations.

Mr. Lewis is a past president of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and a fellow of the AIPLA and the American Bar Foundation. Mr. Lewis has provided counsel to and appeared for AIPLA and other amicus curiae in numerous cases before the Supreme Court of the United States. In addition, he is a past president of the United States branch of Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, or AIPPI), where he currently serves on the international amicus committee. He also serves on the Advisory Board of IP Litigator magazine, and he frequently writes and speaks on patent and patent litigation issues. Since 1999, Mr. Lewis has served as an adjunct professor at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University and teaches a seminar on Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Patent Law.
Before joining Fried Frank, Mr. Lewis was a partner at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP, where he served as head of the patent group. He has also served as an Alexander Judicial Fellow to the Honorable Marion T. Bennett of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Lewis has litigated more than 30 cases before the US Federal District Courts, which includes 12 trials (including several jury trials), and he has had more than a dozen matters before the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Mr. Lewis received a JD, cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1986 and a BSE from the University of Connecticut in 1983. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court; the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; the United States Court of Federal Claims; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Third Circuit and Federal Circuit; U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Districts of New York, Connecticut and the Northern District of Illinois; New York; and Connecticut.
He is recognized by Chambers USA, among other legal directories.
