-- Accreditation provides customers with the confidence that the site complies with the aerospace industry's highest quality management system standards
-- UTC Aerospace Systems is pursuing certification at each of its more than 50 MRO sites worldwide and expects additional sites to qualify in the months ahead
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Following an exhaustive series of independent audits, UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), has obtained AS9110 Rev. C certification for its service center in Prestwick, Scotland, making it the first maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in the world to comply with the revised industry quality standards. The certification validates that the site has established, implemented and maintained a quality management system that complies with the highest aerospace industry standards for MROs. UTC Aerospace Systems is pursuing the certification at each of its more than 50 MRO sites worldwide.
The standards are managed by the International Aerospace Quality Group, which provides oversight to ensure that suppliers throughout the aerospace industry have quality management systems in place to consistently provide products and services to meet customer, statutory and regulatory requirements. To obtain the certification, UTC Aerospace Systems demonstrated that the Prestwick Service Center's quality management system complies with the highest aerospace industry standards for MROs, including focus areas such as safety, quality, risk identification, organizational strategy and customer service. The rigorous process took six months to complete.
To most conveniently meet the needs of its customers at the locations in which they operate, UTC Aerospace Systems maintains more than 50 MRO sites around the world and is currently pursuing AS9110 Rev. C certification at each of them, with additional sites expected to qualify in the coming months. The Prestwick site is part of the company's Aerostructures division, which operates a global network of nacelle MRO facilities that encompasses more than a million square feet of shop space and provides customers with comprehensive nacelle system repair capabilities.
"At UTC Aerospace Systems, we're dedicated to meeting the highest MRO standards as part of our commitment to provide customers with the highest-quality MRO services," said Aerostructures President Marc Duvall. "We're proud that our Prestwick Service Center is the first MRO site in the world to receive this accreditation, and we look forward to additional sites achieving certification in the months to come."
UTC Aerospace Systems' efforts to achieve the AS9110 Rev. C certification for all its MRO sites align with United Technologies' proprietary Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) operating system. Under the system, the company is committed to a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency in order to provide the best products and services to its customers.
The 250,000 square-foot Prestwick Service Center recently brought a built-for-purpose autoclave on line, enabling it to service large components found on newer large commercial airplanes such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350 XWB. Like all Aerostructures MRO facilities, the Prestwick Service Center not only services UTC Aerospace Systems nacelles, but has full nacelle MRO capability on most large commercial aircraft platforms as well.
