Leadership Experts From Around the World Gather in West Palm Beach
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. and SILVER SPRING, Md., Oct. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In an era of fake news, how can authentic leaders engage with followers, stakeholders, and others to create a future that embraces progress, fosters peace, and creates prosperity for the greater good of the global community?
Authentic Leadership for Progress, Peace & Prosperity, the 20th anniversary global conference hosted by the International Leadership Association (ILA), will examine authentic leadership through the lens of "leadership for what" while raising issues and challenges of critical theoretical and practical importance across the spectrum of leadership. ILA's signature cross-sector, cross-cultural, cross-generational conference will bring together professionals working at the intersections of leadership theory, practice, and education — leadership coaches and consultants; scholars, educators, and students; political and military leaders; business executives and nonprofit leaders — to listen and share, and to dialogue and learn from one another and from other experts in the field.
The conference will take place at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida from October 24-27 and features participants from over 35 countries delving into the latest research, tools, and techniques in the field of leadership via thought-provoking panels and presentations, and skills-building workshops. Keynote speakers will address the challenges in the leadership field itself as well as the global challenges of rising intolerance, tribalism, and isolationism; and climate change, global migrations, and refugees.
After a day of intensive, deep-dive pre-conference workshops on the 24th, the conference opens on the 25th with a plenary from Donna Ladkin, one of the preeminent critical thinkers on leadership. Her talk, Why Self-Constitution Trumps the True Self as the Foundation for Leading Authentically, will discuss U.S. President Donald Trump's leadership style as a spring board for challenging essentialist notions of the authentic self.
African leader Caroline Kisia, the Executive Director of Action Africa Help International (AAH-I), joins the conference on Friday the 26th to deliver her keynote, Authentic Leadership: From Crises to Peace. She will offer leadership insights and lessons drawn from practicing medicine as a doctor in rural Kenyan villages, leading start up organizations, achieving Silicon Valley recognition, and working with refugee populations.
The conference concludes Saturday October 27th with a closing plenary given by leadership guru Barbara Kellerman, author of The End of Leadership and Professionalizing Leadership. She will engage in a far-reaching discussion of standards as they apply to the leadership industry and leadership and followership specifically.
The conference will also feature Keith Grint and Joanne Ciulla, who will each be honored with the ILA's Lifetime Achievement Award for their respective accomplishments in advancing the field of leadership. Grint is a Professor of Public Leadership at Warwick University in Coventry, England whose recent research includes work on mindfulness in high-reliability organizations. Ciulla is Professor of Leadership Ethics and Academic Director of the Institute for Ethical Leadership at Rutgers University Business School. Her book Ethics: The Heart of Leadership is a classic in the field.
One of the unique tenets of the ILA is the value placed on rigor and relevance at the nexus of theory and practice. Many sessions exemplify this approach, looking at topics such as extreme weather preparedness, leadership and criminal justice, and the early seeds of leadership development in children. The complete list of concurrent sessions, including descriptions and presenter information, is available online as a PDF or via an interactive portal.
Visit the conference website for detailed information and the complete agenda. The conference is open to everyone. Please register online in advance or onsite at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. Day passes are available onsite. With a stellar list of keynotes, expert session presenters, and a diverse array of networking opportunities and special events, Authentic Leadership for Progress, Peace & Prosperity promises to inform, inspire, and invigorate.
