Yamana Gold Inc. (USA) Analyst Notes
On May 13, 2014, Yamana Gold Inc. (USA) (Yamana) declared that Daniel Racine has joined the Company's senior management as Senior Vice President of Canadian Operations and Mine Planning & Development, with immediate effect. According to the Company, Mr. Racine in his new role will be responsible for all mining operations in Canada and will lead the strategy to grow the Company's Canadian portfolio. Additionally, he will also take responsibility in formulating strategic objectives and direction, and give technical support to all of Yamana's operations. The Company reported that prior to joining Yamana, Mr. Racine was President and Chief Operating Officer for Brigus Gold Corporation, and has over 25 years of experience in the Canadian mining industry with extensive experience in Quebec. ArcelorMittal SA (ADR) Analyst Notes
On May 13, 2014, ArcelorMittal SA (ADR) (ArcelorMittal) announced the first-ever management plan for the East Nimba Nature Reserve (ENNR). The Company stated that the members of the Biodiversity Conservation Programme (BCP) of ArcelorMittal Liberia, the Forestry Development Authority, Fauna and Flora International (FFI), Conservation International, the Co-Management Committee (CMC) USAID/PROSPER, and members of the local community, all validated the management plan after a two-day workshop held in Sanniquellie, which was then finalized and fully endorsed by the FDA and the CMC. The Company informed that this landmark in its environmental programme is the result of their decade-long work. ADR stated that in 2003, an area of the Nimba forest was declared a reserve, but to reach an agreement with local communities on how to manage the reserve has been a longstanding issue. In 2010 a co-management committee (CMC), representing local communities, and FDA was formed to manage the ENNR for the next five years and at the end of March 2014, the plan was finally validated at a workshop facilitated by FFI.
