Le Vent du Nord comes to Midland Center for the Arts Through Arts Midwest World Fest Partnership
MIDLAND, Mich., March 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Here's your chance to be a citizen of the world with a wholly unique concert by a group of exciting young musicians from Canada: Le Vent du Nord!
Considered a driving force in progressive folk music, Le Vent du Nord is a fresh and exhilarating French Canadian folk ensemble that captures the energy and mirth of a Saturday night kitchen party, infusing old Quebec with a breath of fresh, cosmopolitan air. An energetic and dynamic band, they burst onto the international folk scene over 10 years ago and have been delighting crowds ever since with a mix of fiddle, guitar, accordion and hurdy-gurdy.
Le Vent du Nord will visit Midland in April as part of a multi-city Midwest tour coordinated by Minneapolis-based Arts Midwest. The four-member group delivers catchy songs and tunes, some taken from the Quebec traditional folk repertoire, while others are original compositions.
In addition to presenting numerous residencies and workshops to students throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region, Le Vent du Nord will present a public performance at Midland Center for the Arts on Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m.
Concert tickets are $15 and are available by calling the MCFTA Ticket Office at 800-523-7649 or at www.mcfta.org. Le Vent du Nord is locally sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company.
Arts Midwest, one of six U.S. Regional Arts Organizations, partners with program sponsors like The National Endowment for the Arts and 3M to cover a substantial portion of the program cost so that communities throughout the Midwest can enjoy this rich arts experience. Midland was selected as one of only nine Midwestern cities to host the 2013–15 Arts Midwest World Fest and is the only partner community chosen in Michigan. "It's a real honor to be part of this program," says Michael Hayes, MCFTA president and CEO. Le Vent du Nord is the second of four ensembles to visit Midland over the course of this two-year partnership with Arts Midwest. The other ensembles featured in this program will are from Israel, China and Brazil.
