L.B. Foster Tubular Products Facility Receives 2011 Alabama Excellence Award

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Pittsburgh, PA-based L.B. Foster Company (NASDAQ: FSTR) announced that its steel pipe coating facility in Birmingham, Alabama has received the prestigious 2011 Alabama Excellence Award for performance innovations in manufacturing. This Level Three award is the highest recognition presented by the Alabama Productivity Center to organizations that have demonstrated sustained performance excellence through their practices and achievements. The Alabama Quality Awards program is modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and has been administered since 1986.

The L.B. Foster steel pipe coating plant is ISO 9001:2008 registered and employs a staff of up to 60 workers. The Birmingham facility applies fusion bond epoxy corrosion protection on 10.75" to 24" diameter steel line pipe manufactured by American Steel Pipe. The plant recently achieved an important milestone by reaching one million man hours without a Lost Time Accident. The Birmingham team had previously been recognized with the 2010 Alabama Quality Award Level One Commitment to Excellence.

The 2011 Alabama Excellence Award will be presented to L.B. Foster at the Alabama Productivity Center 2011 Annual Conference on December 7th in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
