Lazzoni Opens Contemporary Furniture Boutique In NYC's SoHo District, Targets Growth In Metro U.S.
NEW YORK, June 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Lazzoni, the international maker of sleek, contemporary furniture for cosmopolitan apartments and homes, announced today the grand opening of its flagship store in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood.
Highlights of the collection include beds with hidden storage compartments and sofas with easily adjustable backs that can be converted into beds. Perfect for any NYC apartment, the collection at 26 Greene Street provides maximum quality, flexibility and style at moderate prices. A launch party is slated for the 5,700-square-foot space in September.
The company was founded in Istanbul in the 1950s, moving from door-and-window joinery production to modular kitchens. Intricately woven and textured fabrics are procured in Turkey, said Efe Kababulut, founder and CEO of Lazzoni US, the Istanbul-based company's American division. A fourth-generation furniture manufacturer, Kababulut spent most of his youth in his family's factory and showrooms in Ankara, Turkey, before coming to New York, where he earned a degree in industrial design from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2009.
The Lazzoni collection features butter-soft leathers in shades of gray, black and cream, are supplied by Italian leather giant Gruppo Dani - Nicoletti, while rails and joints are built by Blum, the Austrian manufacturer known for its BluMotion soft-closing technology. Most pieces, including sofas, bookshelves, desks and entertainment centers can be customized for individual spaces, wrapping around corners and expanding or contracting to conform to spaces of varying sizes. Lazzoni, which has 20 retail stores worldwide, also provides consultants who assess homes and map a unique furnishing plan that clients can view and modify via computer. Technology plays an integral part in the collection, as many pieces have built-in TVs, cameras, lighting, and are hard-wired into the pieces.
"I want to position Lazzoni where no other furniture brand has been," said Kababulut, 26. "I'd like to associate my brand with style in a very unique and different way."
Kababulut plans to expand in metropolitan cities in the U.S., including Miami, Chicago, Boston and Washington, D.C., by taking advantage of franchising opportunities. The SoHo store is Lazzoni's third in the New York area, joining locations in Chelsea and Paramus, N.J., and positioning the company to take advantage of furniture sales that rose to a three-month high in the U.S. in May.
"Our niche is high-quality furniture with classically elegant, simple European lines," Kababulut said. "We manufacture the products that we sell, so we can provide the highest quality, and because we build them in Turkey, we can do so at a lower cost than our competitors."
"Eventually, we started making beautiful furniture with even better price tags and learned a lot on every step of the way," Kababulut said. "Every single piece of knowledge we accumulated on the way, we applied to our designs. After we attained our first goal of being the largest furniture brand in Turkey, we focused on international markets."
