HOUSTON, May 8, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Derek Potts, founder and national managing partner of Potts Law Firm, LLP filed a lawsuit against several national hotel groups including Clarion Inn and Suites a subsidiary of Choice Hotels, Candlewood Suites a subsidiary of InterContinental Hotels Group, and Red Roof Inn on behalf of his client who was allegedly kidnapped, held against her will in these hotels and forced to perform sexual services as a minor under the age of 18.
"While it is no question that sex trafficking is a major issue in Houston, not enough is being done to combat it," said Potts. "We are seeking justice for our client by holding these hotels accountable for choosing to overlook this wrongdoing that occurred on their properties while profiting off of it in the process."
The plaintiff, who wishes to remain anonymous, is referred to as "Jane Doe" in the case and charges that the defendants knowingly ignored the sex trafficking rings that were being operated out of their businesses, resulting in them profiting from the sexual exploitation of minors. The plaintiff was only 15 when she was allegedly kidnapped, held captive, and introduced to drugs and the commercial sex trade. During her alleged captivity, she was moved between Clarion Inn and Suites, Candlewood Suites, and Red Roof Inn locations in Houston, Texas over a period of six months before finally being rescued by police and her family.
"I hope that we can ultimately shut this horrific business down while achieving justice for our client who has suffered immensely and had her life changed forever," said Potts. "We want this case to inspire people to come forward if they know of sex trafficking occurring in our community to help us all put a stop to this."
