Lawsuit Alleges 6-Year-Old Boy Lost Part of Jaw Due to Negligence of Children's Dental Group
SANTA ANA, Calif., Dec. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Callahan & Blaine has filed a lawsuit today in Orange County Superior Court against Children's Dental Group for allegedly causing a 6-year-old boy to lose part of his jaw as a result of contracting an infection from contaminated water at the dental office. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Plaintiff Farhan Ahmadi and his guardian, Freshta Ahmadi, is similar to others recently filed in the last weeks and months against the dental clinic.
Attorney Daniel J. Callahan of Callahan & Blaine is representing the Plaintiffs. "Farhan's mother brought him to Children's Dental Group's Anaheim clinic in June 2016, where she was told Farhan needed a pulpotomy or 'baby tooth root canal,'" said Callahan. "Not only was the procedure not medically necessary, but Farhan suffered a horrible mycobacterial infection caused by bacteria in the water used by the dental clinic during the procedure. Making matters worse, Children's Dental Group was already aware of other patients suffering infections relating to pulpotomies prior to Farhan's procedure, but failed to inform Farhan's parents."
Callahan further explained that, "As a result of the infection, Farhan was forced to undergo additional surgeries, lost part of his jaw and eventually was hospitalized for over two weeks at CHOC while doctors tried to fight off the infection that ultimately travelled to his lungs. Since his discharge, Farhan has been receiving antibiotics intravenously and will have to receive antibiotic treatment for 4 to 6 months."
The Complaint alleges that the Orange County Department Health last month required Children's Dental Group to replace its water system at its Anaheim office after public health officials found that samples tested positive for mycobacterium. Callahan stated that "more than 70 children have been treated at CHOC for confirmed or probable cases. The children who have contracted infections range in age from 2 to 10 and underwent pulpotomies between March and August of 2016."
Callahan further noted that "by filing this lawsuit, we seek to hold Defendants liable for their actions that have caused so much harm to so many innocent children."
The case is Freshta Ahmadi, individually and as Guardian Ad Litem for Farhan Ahmadi, a minor, v. Jerry Minsky, D.D.S., dba Children's Dental Group; Trinh Pham, D.D.S; Gruenbaum Advisory Services; Samuel H. Gruenbaum.
