Lawmaking by "Leaks" Is Deplorable, States Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS)
TUCSON, Ariz., Feb. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to the news buzz about an allegedly "leaked" replacement for the Affordable Care Act (ACA or "ObamaCare"), the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) stated that Americans should demand to see actual proposals rather than rumors or trial balloons. Also, they should demand that lawmakers read and reflect on bills before they vote.
"Remember Nancy Pelosi's notorious statement that 'we have to pass the bill to see what's in it,'" stated AAPS executive director Jane M. Orient, M.D. "It is disgraceful for Republicans to behave the same way."
"ObamaCare destroyed the insurance market with its regulations and mandates," she added. "It is impossible to repair the damage while the law remains in effect. We still don't know what all is in it."
AAPS advocates full repeal and a post-mortem on the damage caused by ACA. "First, we need a forensic accounting of where the money went," Dr. Orient said. "I suspect we will find that only a small fraction went into real medical goods or services to actual patients."
"The ObamaCare paradigm is that many people can't afford medical care, so we'll make someone else pay for it, through a comprehensive 'insurance' plan, and empower bureaucrats to deny care as they see fit," Dr. Orient explained. "Too many Republicans just want to rearrange the winners and losers."
A new paradigm is presented in an AAPS white paper. "Medical care costs too much because 90 percent is paid for by government and health plans. Basically, control of patients' money and their medical decisions must be returned to patients," Dr. Orient said.
The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) is a national organization representing physicians in virtually all specialties and every state. Founded in 1943, AAPS has the motto "omnia pro aegroto," which means "all for the patient."
