NEW YORK, Feb. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A new ranking of the law firms with the largest labor and employment practice groups by Law360, the newswire for business lawyers, shows full-service firms are prepared to give their boutique competitors a run for their money.
The Law360 Employment 100 reveals that goliaths of the legal industry boast robust employment practice groups, complicating views that the sector is an uncontested boutique stronghold.
"The common perception has been that full-service firms are abandoning employment work because they just can't compete with boutiques on rates," Law360 managing editor Cat Fredenburgh said. "Our survey shows this isn't the case."
Several full-service firms have more than 25 percent of their attorneys practicing in labor and employment, while megafirms can rival boutiques in manpower when less than 10 percent of their lawyers are devoted to employment matters.
The Law360 Employment 100 is part of a practice area survey covering bankruptcy, competition, employment, energy, environmental, government contracts, insurance, intellectual property, international trade, media and entertainment, mergers and acquisitions, privacy and consumer protection, product liability, project finance, real estate, securities, and white collar.
The rankings are accompanied by an article on the three biggest legal powerhouses of each sector.
The Employment 100 includes Akin Gump, Allen & Overy, Baker & Daniels, Baker & McKenzie, Baker Donelson, Baker Hostetler, Ballard Spahr, Barnes & Thornburg, Bond Schoeneck, Bracewell & Giuliani, Bryan Cave, Buchanan Ingersoll, Butzel Long, Constangy Brooks, Davis Wright, Dinsmore & Shohl, DLA Piper, Dorsey & Whitney, Drinker Biddle, Duane Morris, Edwards Wildman, EpsteinBeckerGreen, Fasken Martineau, Fisher & Phillips, Ford & Harrison, Fox Rothschild, Frost Brown, Fulbright, Gibson Dunn, Gordon & Rees, Greenberg Traurig, Hinshaw & Culbertson, Hunton & Williams, Husch Blackwell, Jackson Lewis, Jones Day, K&L Gates, Latham & Watkins, LeClairRyan, Lewis Brisbois, Littler Mendelson, Mayer Brown, McDermott, McElroy Deutsch, Michael Best, Morgan Lewis, Morrison & Foerster, Nixon Peabody, Ogletree Deakins, Orrick, Paul Hastings, Perkins Coie, Phelps Dunbar, Polsinelli Shughart, Porter Wright, Quarles & Brady, Reed Smith, Seyfarth Shaw, Sheppard Mullin, Sidley Austin, SNR Denton, Squire Sanders, Stinson Morrison, Stoel Rives, Taft Stettinius, Vedder, Venable, Vorys Sater, Wilson Elser, Wilson Sonsini, Winston & Strawn.
