CHICAGO, Dec. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The results of the 2012 Law Department Operations Survey, produced by Blickstein Group and InsideCounsel, a Summit Business Media publication, were published in InsideCounsel's December issue and include important data for legal departments; including trends in compliance organization, metrics and reporting, driving and implementing law department management strategy.

The Fifth Annual Law Department Operations Survey is a partnership between Blickstein Group, Inc. and InsideCounsel, the leading publication for in-house counsel, and is produced in cooperation with Huron Legal. Led by an in-house legal advisory board chaired by David Cambria, senior director, enterprise information management at CDW, the survey provides legal departments with a consistent platform to benchmark themselves, identify emerging trends in legal department management, and better understand how the largest companies are handling department operations.
The survey contains data compiled from many leading corporate legal departments and was designed by an advisory board of legal department operations directors.
"Since the survey was launched in 2008, we have seen a substantial evolution in the role and responsibilities of law department operations managers; today's 'LDO' is much more strategic," said Brad Blickstein, principal of Blickstein Group. "In fact, more than 86% of this year's respondents state that they are often or sometimes 'involved in corporate strategic initiatives' and almost all respondents interface with HR, IT and Finance on at least a weekly basis."
Despite the more strategic responsibilities, LDOs continue to focus on reducing legal spend. The most frequently cited "top challenge" of managing a law department is to identify opportunities for business improvement and cost savings. Five of the top six Key Performance Indicators listed—and four of the top six metrics—are related to spending.
The LDO Survey was sponsored by Huron Legal, Bridgeway, Datacert, Lawtrac, LexisNexis, Autonomy and Serengeti. To view the 2012 supplement, visit InsideCounsel.com/LDO.
