Law and Business Conference on International Economic Sanctions, Anti-Corruption Laws Designed for Insurers, Reinsurers, HB Announces
WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- David T. Brummond, Senior Sanctions Advisor from OFAC, Department of Treasury is among the speakers participating in the seminar titled "Regulation of International Business: Important Considerations for Insurance and Reinsurance," produced by HB Litigation Conferences, according to HB CEO Tom Hagy.
"In planning this event," Hagy said, "we were hard pressed to think of more important subjects for insurers and reinsurers – or companies doing global business generally – than international economic sanctions and how to best navigate international anti-corruption laws." Other important topics, Hagy said, include cross-border solvency, privacy and data protection, international market access, Canadian regulation of insurance and reinsurance, and tax developments.
The one-day event takes place in Washington, DC on September 23, 2010. Officials from the office of the US Trade Representative, the Department of Justice, the National Foreign Trade Council, the NAIC and the RAA are also featured.
Reka Koerner, a Senior Vice President from Swiss Re America is one of three co-chairs of the conference, joining William O'Neill and Jeffrey Snyder, partners with the international law firm Crowell & Moring. The event is being hosted at Crowell's DC offices.
"Reinsurance and insurance companies operate in an interconnected world. The international regulatory arena is ever-changing and it is increasingly important to learn about and stay on top of developments. We designed this conference to provide professionals with key information they need to be aware of," said Ms. Koerner.
The event offers two networking opportunities and a luncheon keynote with Howard Schweitzer former COO of the TARP funds. Schweitzer was responsible for leading program execution and building the infrastructure of the $700 billion fund.
"The faculty experts were chosen based on their strong reputations in their industries and their ability to provide diversity in their viewpoints and experiences," said Carolyn Fahey, HB Senior Program Director. Speakers include representatives from key law firms and companies including Blake Cassels & Graydon, C&M International, Cozen O'Conner, Crowell & Moring, Deloitte, DLA Piper, Foley & Lardner, National Association of Insurance Commissioners, National Foreign Trade Council, Reinsurance Association of America, Swiss Re, Transamerica Reinsurance, Washington Advocates Group, and Wiley Rein.
