BOSTON, Oct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Lavallee Brensinger Architects in partnership with the Hard Rock Cafe participated in the 2014 Boston CANstruction competition to fight hunger, donating 2,640 cans of food to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank. Sixteen Boston firms competed in CANstruction's "Pop Culture" design/build this year, using a broad array of canned foods to construct giant displays of public art. The Lavallee Brensinger team constructed:
- 10 foot Les Paul & Hard Rock logo,
- using 2,640 cans,
- 2 ladders,
- 20 volunteers,
- All in 7 hours!
Lavallee Brensinger's "Boston Rocks Hunger" sculpture was awarded Juror's Favorite and will move on to the International CANstruction competition in May 2015.
CANstruction is a unique nonprofit organization which hosts competitions, exhibitions, and events showcasing colossal structures made entirely of full cans of food. After the structures are built and the winners declared, the creations go on view to the general public at the BSA | Space & Atlantic Wharf Building in Boston as giant art exhibits. At the close of the competition, all of the food used in the structures is donated to local food banks for distribution to community emergency feeding programs. This year's Boston CANstruction donated 45,000 cans equaling 58,000 meals to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank.
