Laurie H. Glimcher, MD, Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College, Joins New York Blood Center Board of Trustees
NEW YORK, June 13, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- New York Blood Center (NYBC) announced today that Laurie H. Glimcher, MD, Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College, has been elected to the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Glimcher is the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, where she is also Professor of Medicine. In addition, she is Provost for Medical Affairs of Cornell University. Previous to her current positions, she was the Irene Heinz Given Professor of Immunology at the Harvard School of Public Health, where she was director of the Division of Biological Sciences, and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, where she headed one of the top immunology programs in the world. She also served as Senior Physician and Rheumatologist at the Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Dr. Glimcher is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a Member of the National Academy of Sciences (and a Member of its Institute of Medicine). She is the former President of the American Association of Immunologists. She is a member of the American Asthma Foundation, Health Care Ventures, Burroughs-Wellcome Fund and Cancer Research Institute scientific advisory boards. She serves on the Board of Trustees of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and is on the Corporate Board of Directors of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Corporation and the Waters Corporation.

Howley Award, the FASEB Excellence in Science Award, the American Society of Clinical Investigation Investigator Award, the Klemperer Award, the AAUW Senior Scholar Award, the Huang Meritorious Career Award, the AAI Excellence in Mentoring Award, the Dean's Award for Leadership in the Advancement of Women Faculty, the American College of Rheumatology Distinguished Investigator Award, and in 2012 she received the Ernst W. Bertner Memorial Award, MD Anderson Cancer Center, the William B. Coley Award, Cancer Research Institute, and the Luis Federico Leloir Prize for International Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Health, Argentina. Most recently she was the recipient of the Advancing Women in Science and Medicine award.
She received her bachelor's degree from Radcliffe College and her MD from Harvard.
