Laureate Global Fellows Convene at Universidade Anhembi Morumbi
BALTIMORE, Oct. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Laureate International Universities' Universidade Anhembi Morumbi kicked off the annual gathering of the Laureate Global Fellows today in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The 20 members of this year's class of Laureate Global Fellows are all outstanding young social entrepreneurs who have produced successful projects on a range of issues, including education, the environment, economic stability and the empowerment of women. The class represents 18 countries, and includes Universidade Anhembi Morumbi student Kellen Ribas, a cofounder of Cicla Brasil, which helps waste pickers improve their lives in her native Brazil. The class also includes Patricia Barrios, a graduate of Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, a Laureate institution in Peru.
Over the course of this week, the fellows will complete an intensive leadership development workshop and attend meetings and seminars at Anhembi Morumbi's Vila Olímpia and Morumbi campuses with students, faculty, government officials and business leaders. The fellows will be honored during a ceremony Thursday, October 10, in Sao Paulo.
"The members of this year's class of Laureate Global Fellows are truly an inspiration," said Douglas L. Becker, Chairman and CEO of Laureate Education, Inc. "I am excited to watch as they continue to make their mark on the world and apply what they learn through the fellowship to make a difference in their local communities."
The Laureate Global Fellowship is a partnership of the Sylvan/Laureate Foundation and the International Youth Foundation's YouthActionNet® program, which supports emerging social entrepreneurs.
