Laura L. English, Ph.D. is recognized by Continental Who's Who
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Nov. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Laura L. English, Ph.D. is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in the field of Mental Health as Founder and Clinical Psychologist for Laura English, Ph.D., LLC, as well as in the field of the Visual Arts as Founder, Artist, Photographer, and Writer for LEnglish, LLC.
As owner of Laura English, Ph.D., LLC, Dr. English provides psychotherapy and psychological assessment services to adults and adolescents from a Christian worldview with a psychodynamic perspective on emotional development and an eclectic approach to facilitating healing and change. Understanding that individuals benefit most from "counseling" when they experience their "counselor" as caring and sincere, Dr. English brings gentleness, compassion, and even humor into her relationships with her clients.
Born and raised as "Laura Hurston" in the small town of Sylacauga, Alabama, Dr. English earned her B.A. (summa cum laude) at Belhaven University in Jackson, MS, double majoring in Psychology and Christian Ministries and minoring in English. Believing that she was "called" to support individuals and families in full-time Christian ministry, in the States and Abroad, Dr. English attended Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, where she earned a Master of Arts degree in Theology (Cross-Cultural Track) and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Clinical Psychology. Her research focused on the roles and life dreams of married missionary women. While at Fuller, she also assisted in founding a non-profit agency that convened two international consultations on missions' mental health: "Enabling the Missionary." At both academic institutions, Dr. English earned awards for her commitment to her fields of study and the integration of theology and psychology.
The experience that Dr. English brings to her profession as a clinical psychologist is unique, including the following: extensive volunteer work with children, church ministry, and camp counseling; missions work in Belgium, Iceland, and Peru; clinical positions in the fields of dementia day care, geriatric counseling, severe mental illness of children and adolescents, community mental health care for all ages, and supervision of college and graduate school psychology interns. After returning to Alabama, Dr. English assisted in founding what is now known as Wellspring Christian Clinic, where she maintained a private practice for 18 years. With a passion for teaching and mentoring, Dr. English has also served as an adjunctive professor of counseling at Beeson Divinity School of Samford University and as the Associate Professor of Counseling for the former Southeastern Bible College of Birmingham, AL.
As a vocalist, pianist, photographer, writer, and artist, Dr. English has always been compelled to create. In 2014, she founded Laura English Art and Photography, but then reestablished her art business as LEnglish, LLC in 2018, with a focus on publishing her original, heart-warming designs as a new line of greeting cards: Remember When.
Dr. English has been married to her husband, Tim, for over 25 years. They have two adult sons: Ryan and Brandon. They have been active members of Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, AL, where they have provided leadership in the ministries of music and art.
