Latin Business Chronicle Announces Latin Legal Stars 2013
The annual list highlights the 50 most prominent lawyers working with Latin America and the Caribbean
MIAMI, April 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Fifty names comprise the list of Latin Business Chronicle's 2013 Latin Legal Stars released today, a list which spotlights lawyers with an excellent reputation in working with Latin America and the Caribbean.
These lawyers have been at the head of some of the largest deals in the past year, including multi-billion dollar M&As – such as Anheuser Busch's $21 billion acquisition of Grupo Modelo – as well as in the structuring of multi-million dollar IPOs of some of the region's banks and private companies. Lawyers involved in the financing of the region's largest infrastructure projects – such as the Panama Canal expansion – are also represented, as are arbitrators representing companies and sovereign governments before the ICSID (International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes).
The selection comprises lawyers from both large multinational law firms, as well as local boutique firms that cater only to the local market. The lawyers' expertise spans a broad range of practices including arbitration, banking, capital markets, energy, mining, mergers and acquisitions, and tax.
This year for the first time, Latin Business Chronicle (LBC) included Latin American-based lawyers, which comprise more than half the roster. Of these, Brazilian attorneys lead the way with seven entries, followed by six from Mexico, five from Chile, four from Argentina, two each from Colombia, Panama, and Peru, and one from Venezuela.
The selection was based on interviews with their clients, colleagues, and third-party rankings such as United Kingdom-based Chambers and Partners.
"We're always thrilled to release this list which recognizes the top legal talent operating in Latin America today. We feel it is a way to convey our belief that the strict practice of local laws is the only way to do business, and that judicious legal advice is key to enterprise success in the region," said LBC's Executive Editor, Santiago Gutierrez.
