Latham & Watkins Elects 16 New Partners
Promotions from counsel include accomplished practitioners with diverse skill sets and experience across practices, industries, and markets.
NEW YORK, March 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that 16 counsel have been elected to the partnership. The group consists of accomplished practitioners from around the world who advise clients on a range of corporate, litigation, finance, regulatory, and tax matters.

The promotions announced today follow the recent election of 31 associates to the partnership, effective January 1, 2018.

Century City – Jonathan D. West
Jonathan West is a member of the Entertainment, Sports & Media Practice in the Corporate Department. He represents studios, production companies, media companies, advertisers, and corporate clients in connection with the licensing of intellectual property and the development, production, distribution, and financing of motion pictures, television programs, and advertising campaigns. He also regularly represents producers, actors, and other celebrities in negotiating personal services and employment agreements. West received his JD from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law in 1999.
Hamburg – Torsten Volkholz
Torsten Volkholz is a member of the Banking Practice in the Finance Department. His practice focuses on all aspects of real estate financing — from real estate acquisition finance (including real estate portfolio and private equity acquisition finance, and senior and mezzanine structures) to highly complex structured real estate financings and restructuring and workout matters. He also has experience in acquisitions, project finance, and asset-based and general corporate lending. Volkholz received his Dr. jur from the University of Kiel in 2007 and his LLM from Tulane Law School in 2001.
Hong Kong – Terris Tang
Terris Tang is a member of the Capital Markets Practice in the Corporate Department. He advises both issuers and underwriters on Hong Kong initial public offerings (IPOs), secondary placements, and other equity and bond offerings, and he counsels public companies on compliance matters. Tang also advises on M&A transactions, including cross-border matters and both inbound and outbound M&A for China-based clients. He received his postgraduate law degree from the University of Hong Kong in 2005, his LLM from Cambridge University in 2008, and his PCLL from the University of Hong Kong.
Houston – Jesse P. Myers
Jesse Myers is a member of the Capital Markets Practice in the Corporate Department. His practice focuses on representing companies and investment banks in equity and debt capital markets transactions, as well as in M&A and private equity transactions and corporate governance, structuring, and securities matters. He has extensive experience representing master limited partnerships (MLPs) and public companies in the oil and gas industry. He received his JD from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2007.
London – Shatha H. Ali
Shatha Ali is a member of the Capital Markets Practice in the Corporate Department. Her practice focuses on transactional and regulatory matters related to derivative products. She has experience advising clients with respect to over-the-counter and structured finance transactions across a range of asset classes, as well as related insolvency and dispute resolution matters. She also has notable experience in Islamic finance. She received her law degree from King's College London in 2003 and her postgraduate law degree from BPP Law School in 2004.
Los Angeles – Eric Cho and Mark O. Morris
Eric Cho is a member of the Transactional Tax Practice in the Tax Department. He has broad experience in transactional matters, particularly the taxation of real estate investment trusts (REITs). His diverse capabilities include advising on M&A and capital markets matters that include taxable and tax-free mergers, stock and asset purchases, joint venture and partnership transactions, financings, and securities offerings. Cho received his JD from Harvard Law School in 2006.
Mark Morris is a member of the Banking Practice in the Finance Department. He represents private equity sponsors and public companies in cross-border and domestic leveraged financings, asset-based financing, mezzanine financing, and restructurings. His range of experience includes managing complex borrower-side transactions, secured and unsecured credit facilities, and acquisition financings. He received his LLB (with French Law) from University College London in 2000 and his LPC from College of Law, London in 2001.
New York – Matthew J. Chase and Yvette D. Valdez
Matthew Chase is a member of the Investment Funds Practice in the Corporate Department. He advises on private investment fund formation and related transactions, covering all aspects of raising capital and running an investment management firm for a wide range of fund sponsor clients. Chase regularly counsels clients on co-investments, internal sponsor arrangement, structuring portfolio company investments and exits, and regulatory and compliance matters, as well as joint ventures and other strategic transactions. He received his JD from the St. John's University School of Law in 2005.
Yvette Valdez is a member of the Capital Markets and Financial Regulatory Practices in the Corporate Department. She focuses her practice on derivatives and commodities regulatory and transactional matters. She regularly advises financial institutions and end-users in the structuring of bespoke derivative financial arrangements. She also regularly advises FinTech companies with their regulatory needs as applied to complex financial technologies (including distributed ledger technology) related to market infrastructure, cryptocurrencies and cryptoassets. Valdez received her JD from the Columbia University School of Law in 2005.
Paris – Alexander Crosthwaite
Alexander Crosthwaite is a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Practice in the Corporate Department. He advises clients on M&A and private equity transactions, as well as corporate and securities matters involving public and private companies, often in complex, cross-border transactions. Crosthwaite graduated from HEC Paris business school in 2005. He received his private law degree from the University of Paris XI Sceaux in 2004 and his postgraduate business and tax law degree from the University of Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne in 2005.
San Diego – Ann Buckingham and James I. Mann
Ann Buckingham is a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Practice in the Corporate Department. Her practice focuses on M&A and joint venture transactions, as well as LLC structures, debt and equity offerings, technology transactions, and general public company representation. She has broad industry experience in the communications, technology, gaming, and life sciences sectors. Buckingham received her LLB from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand in 1994 and her BCL (masters in law) from Oxford University, England in 1997.
James Mann is a member of the Real Estate Practice in the Finance Department. He advises clients on a range of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and development and financing transactions for all property types. Mann regularly represents major investment banks in connection with their financings of gaming and hospitality assets. He also advises on the real estate aspects of leveraged finance and project finance transactions in the energy sector. He received his JD/MBA from the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law in 2006.
Silicon Valley – Brian D. Paulson
Brian Paulson is a member of the Capital Markets Practice in the Corporate Department. His practice focuses on debt and equity offerings and general public company representation for clients in the internet and digital media, semiconductor, life sciences, and REIT industries. He has advised both company and underwriter clients on a range of notable IPOs and follow-on offerings. Paulson received his JD from Georgetown University Law Center in 2007.
Washington, D.C. – Gabriel K. Bell, Marc A. Granger, and Farrell J. Malone
Gabriel Bell is a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice in the Litigation & Trial Department. His practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, particularly appeals in the Federal Circuit. His experience spans technical fields and cases relating to the banking industry, telecommunications software, online web content, translation systems, computer memory technology, automotive technology, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals. Bell received his JD from Harvard Law School in 2004.
Marc Granger is a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Practice in the Corporate Department. He regularly represents private equity sponsors and public and private companies in a range of complex M&A transactions, tender offers, going-private transactions, divestitures of divisions and product lines, and strategic investments. Granger advises clients across various industries, including aerospace, defense and government services, communications, and healthcare. He received his JD from the Washington & Lee University School of Law in 2005.
Farrell Malone is a member of the Antitrust & Competition Practice in the Litigation & Trial Department. His practice focuses on the antitrust review of M&A transactions, antitrust investigations and enforcement matters, and antitrust litigation. He has significant experience advising on large and complex global merger reviews before antitrust authorities in multiple jurisdictions worldwide. He received his JD from Georgetown University Law Center in 2007 and MA in Economics from University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2004.
