Analyst Update: Leadership Succession Plans, Scheduled Earnings, and Agreements
Reviewed by: Rohit Tuli, CFA®
The U.S. stocks ended lower on Friday, sending the S&P 500 index to its biggest monthly decline in a year, as an unexpected deceleration in the U.S. fourth quarter GDP growth raised concerns over the health of world's biggest economy, curbing appeal of the risky assets. A Commerce Department data on Friday showed that the U.S. economy grew at a slower-than-expected 2.6% annualized rate in the fourth quarter versus a 5% growth in the third quarter as businesses curbed spending while trade deficit widened. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.45% to close at 17,164.95, the S&P 500 fell 1.30% to close at 1,994.99, and the Nasdaq Composite slipped 1.03% to end at 4,635.24. European equities also ended lower on Friday as data showed that consumer prices in the euro area fell more than the forecasts in January, highlighting the challenges that European Central Bank faces in its battle with deflation. Meanwhile, Asian stocks edged up on Friday, taking cues from the Wall Street where stocks rose on back of strong earnings.
Ecopetrol S.A.'s (Ecopetrol) Board of Directors has decided to initiate a succession process for the presidency of the Company, which has been held by Javier Gutierrez Pemberthy since January of 2007, in accordance with the strategic realignment under development by the Company. The distribution represents a 2% increase over the third quarter 2014 distribution of $1.38 per unit and a 41% increase over the fourth quarter 2013 distribution of $1.00 per unit.
Emerson Electric Company (Emerson) is scheduled to report its first-quarter 2015 results prior to market open on Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Emerson's senior management will discuss the results during an investor conference call that same day, beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET (1:00 p.m. CT).
ENI S.p.A. (Eni), along with Vitol and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has signed an agreement with the President of Ghana and the Minister of Petroleum to proceed with the Offshore Cape Three Point (OCTP) project. First oil is expected in 2017, first gas in 2018 and the peak production will be 80,000 boed in 2019.
Enbridge Energy, L.P. (Enbridge Partners) is scheduled to host a webcast conference call to discuss its fourth quarter 2014 financial results and 2015 guidance on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. ET.
