Analyst Update: Appointments, Earnings, Merger Agreement and Recognition

U.S. stocks closed slightly higher on Thursday, after two days of decline following encouraging data on the labor market. Separate government reports showing a steep drop in weekly applications for unemployment benefits and a pickup in U.S. factory orders helped lift the market. The consumer discretionary sector, as measured by the S&P consumer discretionary index, was the day's best-performing sector. The index rose 0.9%, supported by 9.3% gains in CarMax, following stronger-than-expected quarterly results. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 65.06 points, or 0.37%, to 17,763.24; the S&P 500 gained 7.27 points, or 0.35%, to 2,066.96; and the Nasdaq added 6.71 points, or 0.14%, to 4,886.94. European markets closed mixed on Thursday as investors focused on the Friday's March jobs report of U.S, and positioned themselves ahead of the long Easter weekend. UK FTSE 100 Index closed 0.35% percent higher; the French CAC gained 0.24% while the German DAX Index closed 0.28% lower. Asian markets closed on a higher note with China's Shanghai Composite Index gaining 0.41% to 3,825.78.
Intercontinental Hotels Group (Intercontinental Hotels) announced the appointment of Ruwan Peiris as Regional General Manager for New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and Victoria.
La Quinta Inns & Suites hotels, operated by La Quinta Holdings Inc. (La Quinta Holdings), announced the appointment of Vicki Cutwright as Vice President of Consumer Insights & Analytics and David Sims as Vice President of Loyalty Marketing, both based at La Quinta's headquarters in Irving, Texas.
Las Vegas Sands Corp. (Las Vegas Sands) fourth quarter 2014 adjusted earnings per diluted share increased 27.8% YoY to $0.92. Net Income attributable to Las Vegas Sands increased to $721.30 million or $0.90 per diluted share in Q4 2014, from $577.54 million or $0.70 per diluted share in Q4 2013.
Life Time Fitness Inc. (Life Time Fitness) announced its merger agreement with The Healthy Way of Life Company, along with Leonard Green & Partners and TPG, under which affiliates of Leonard Green & Partners and TPG will acquire the Company in a transaction valued at more than $4.0 billion.
MGM Resorts International (MGM Resorts) announced the promotion of Nik Rytterstrom to the role of General Manager of Luxor Resort and Casino. Recently, the Company has also been honored two national Food Recovery Challenge awards for reducing food waste and, in the process, conserving natural resources by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
