CARNEGIE, Pa., Jan. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Only three days before Christmas, The Salvation Army's Western PA Division was more than $394,000 behind its Red Kettle Christmas Campaign goal. "Many of the local newspapers, TV stations, and radio stations rallied behind our cause this year, helping to spread the word to the public about our needs. We are grateful for the exposure and the public's generous response, which enabled us to raise over $2,516,000," said Major William H. Bode, The Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Divisional Commander. Bode added, "Although we exceeded our cumulative divisional goal, there are still several of our Worship and Service Centers who missed the mark. In fact, 10 of the 39 centers were significantly short of their respective goals. I pray that those who are able will contribute to help those areas where the need is so great." Worship and Service Centers who brought in less than 90% of their goal include: Aliquippa, Dubois, Franklin, Meadville, New Castle, Oil City, Pittsburgh Temple, Ridgway, Sharon/Mercer, and Uniontown. Of these, Uniontown and Pittsburgh Temple fared the worst.
Kettle goals are based on each facility's individual budgets. Money raised within each community remains there to support its own residents. There is still time to help the 10 areas who did not reach their goal by sending donations to the local offices or to Divisional Headquarters at PO Box 742, 700 North Bell Avenue, Carnegie, PA 15106. Please indicate the name of the Worship and Service Center and "Kettle Campaign" to ensure your contribution is credited properly. Contributions can also be made online at www.onlineredkettle.org.
