Last Days to Apply for Million Dollar Grant

WARREN, Mich., July 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The deadline is fast approaching for nonprofit organizations to apply for the Art Van Million Dollar Charity Challenge.  Monday, August 1, 2011 is the last day that applications will be accepted for this go round of Art Van's generous charity giveaway.  Described as 'challenge grants,' Michigan's largest furniture retailer will issue awards from $5,000 to $50,000 to support 50 Michigan-based children, health and human services programs.  

"We're urging all qualified charities to apply today," says Chairman and Founder, Art Van Elslander.  "It would be a shame to miss the deadline and not be included in such a great opportunity – an opportunity that could provide the financial resources a charity needs to properly achieve its goals."

In the past two years, Art Van has given away 2 million dollars to 100 charities.  The charities are then encouraged to match the grants.  With this incentive, in 2009, Art Van's one million dollar donation turned into four million with matched challenges.  Last month, at a reception in the Art Van Furniture Lansing store, Art Van presented each of the past recipients with an additional $1,000 bonus.

"We are accepting applications for another 50 deserving recipients, but that does not end the connection with the previous 100," says Gary Van Elslander.  "We are committed to assist long-term by providing resources that build success."
