LA's Solar Challenge: UCLA And USC Researchers Find That Local Solar Programs Are Hampered By Delays As Renewable Mandates Approach
City, business and environmental leaders to gather on Friday to identify solutions to the logjam and chart course for expanded solar programs that will create jobs and attract local investment
LOS ANGELES, March 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Currently, coal-fired power accounts for 42% of LADWP's energy portfolio. Yet opportunities abound to significantly expand local solar generation on LA's rooftops and wean the utility from this polluting energy source. LADWP's local solar programs show great promise, but suffer from a variety of implementation challenges that threaten long-term growth. LABC estimates local solar capacity could grow exponentially over the next decade to power 335,000 homes, and create thousands of new jobs and substantial investment.
