"We are very pleased with the city's response to our event," explained Sanjay Syal, President & CEO of Pinnacle Production Group. "This show was designed specifically for Miami. Hundreds of lanterns illuminate the night, including a four-hundred-foot Dragon and a Castle you can walk through. A team of eighty Chinese artisans needed 3 months to complete our hand-crafted lanterns, which are made from sculpted steel and hundreds of pieces of silky cloth. Other lantern themes include global architecture, creatures of the land and sea, holiday traditions, and mythical stories."
In addition to seeing the gigantic lanterns, the festival promises fun for the whole family, with Chinese acrobats, a Wishing Tree, and musical performances. Activities for children include inflatable obstacle courses, face-painting, mining for emeralds, mini golf and a miniature train. On New Year's Eve there will be a fireworks display. A food court and gift shop are also available.
The event runs Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Friday through Sunday at the Miami-Dade County Fair Expo Center, 10921 SW 24 Street, Miami, Florida 33165.Ticket prices range from $19 to $23, with group pricing available.
Planning has started for the festival's next stop – Memphis, TN - March 23rd to April 30th at Agricenter International, 7777 Walnut Grove Rd, Memphis, Tennessee.
The History of the Lantern Light Festival
Over 2,000 years ago in China, Emperor Hanmingdi ordered that lanterns be lit to show respect to Buddha on the fifteenth day of the first Chinese lunar month. The festival traditionally ends the Chinese New Year period, marking the return of spring and symbolizing the reunion of family.
