Lansing, Mich. Court Reporter Tami Smith Is Elected Vice President of National Court Reporters Association
WASHINGTON, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tami Smith, an official court reporter for the 37th Circuit Court in Battle Creek, Mich. serving the Hon. James C. Kingsley, has been elected to the office of Vice President of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), a 20,000-member association representing court reporters and providers of captioning and realtime transcription services for the legal, broadcasting, business, government, and educational communities throughout the United States (www.ncraonline.org).
Smith, a former freelance court reporter, resides in Lansing, Mich. and becomes the first woman from the state of Michigan to serve on NCRA's Executive Committee. She holds the Michigan Certified Shorthand Reporter certification and national certifications as a Registered Professional Reporter and a Certified Program Evaluator, trained to evaluate and certify undergraduate court reporting programs.
A member of NCRA since 1986, Smith has served as director for five years, on several committee and task forces including the Telemarketing and the Finance Committees, and the Direct Member Voting and Board Code of Ethics task forces. She has also been active with the National Court Reporters Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the NCRA.
Smith remains active with the Michigan Association of Professional Court Reporters (MAPCR), and in the past has held various positions with their association and board of directors, including serving as President in 2000. In 2002 she received the Alton Cobb Award for her work as Chief Examiner of her state testing program and in 2007 was the recipient of the MAPCR Distinguished Service Award.
Smith has authored several articles for the Journal of Court Reporting as well as state newsletters and presented numerous seminars for state associations of court reporters. She has also taken part in advocacy efforts on behalf of the court reporting profession through NCRA's Leadership Conference.
