Langan Opens Office in Bismarck to Support Bakken Oil Shale Play
ELMWOOD PARK, N.J., June 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Langan Engineering & Environmental Services officially announced the opening of an office in Bismarck, North Dakota. The firm established operations in North Dakota to support the unprecedented opportunities brought on by the exploration, extraction, and transportation of oil and gas produced by the Bakken Formation, an extensive oil-bearing shale in the Williston Basin underlying portions of North and South Dakota, Montana, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
As a result of advances in drilling technologies, the Bakken has catapulted to the forefront of world oil and gas production, in turn stimulating an economic boom and surge in real estate development. Langan's newest office (its 17th in the United States and 22nd worldwide), is located in the heart of the state capital, just off Main Street in Bismarck. It will be led by Langan Associate Sigrida Reinis, PhD, PE, who has over 20 years of experience in environmental engineering and construction engineering/management.
"Langan's expansion into North Dakota is a natural outgrowth of our very successful work in the Marcellus and Utica shale gas industry in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio," said David Gockel, President/CEO of Langan. "Dr. Reinis brings a wealth of experience in environmental engineering and construction services to Bismarck, and will be able to apply technically innovative yet practical solutions to the broad range of challenges posed by conditions in the Williston Basin. Sigrida and our Bismarck team are backed by Langan's global resources, which include hundreds of engineers, scientists, and technical experts."
As of April 2013, the United States Geological Survey projected that 7.4 billion barrels of oil, 6.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 530 million barrels of natural gas liquids can be recovered from the Bakken. To produce and transmit the oil and natural gas in an environmentally sound and compliant manner, the industry will rely heavily on the type of multi-disciplined engineering and regulatory support services that Langan provides.
"Langan proved its ability to support the burgeoning oil and gas industry by supporting major players focused on the Marcellus Shale, and we look forward to bringing that experience to our clients in North Dakota," Dr. Reinis said. "We also see opportunities to support private developers and corporations requiring technical and regulatory assistance with current and future projects. Furthermore, municipalities, counties, and state agencies currently need assistance to cope with demands placed on their communities by the tremendous growth fueled by the Bakken shale play, and Langan is now literally on the ground to help by deploying our unique suite of technical services to the region."
