Lancope® Vice President Gavin Reid to Present on Threat Intelligence for Incident Response at the 27th Annual FIRST Conference
Lancope will also exhibit its new technologies for extending network visibility and security context for improved incident response
ATLANTA, June 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Lancope, Inc., a leader in network visibility and security intelligence, announced today that VP Gavin Reid will present on building an effective threat intelligence function at the 27th Annual FIRST Conference in Berlin, Germany. Reid, Lancope's vice president of threat intelligence, will deliver a session entitled, "So You Want a Threat Intelligence* Function (*But Were Afraid to Ask)" on Monday, June 15 at 2:00 p.m. CEST.
"Once the realm of government organizations, the collection, analysis and leveraging of threat intelligence for advanced cybersecurity is now something all corporations should be focused on," said Reid. "Unfortunately, few organizations are sure how to do it. My session will demystify the threat intelligence function, and provide security teams with best practices for setting it up within their organizations for improved cyber threat detection and incident response."
Specifically, Reid's session will outline:
- What threat intelligence is
- Best practices for developing a threat intelligence function
- Common pitfalls to avoid when setting up a threat intelligence practice
- How threat intelligence fits in with other components of an enterprise security strategy
With over 25 years of experience in threat intelligence, Reid has been a driving force in the development of big data analytics and threat identification within the security industry. Prior to joining Lancope, he served in prominent network security roles with Cisco Systems, Fidelity Investments and NASA.
While at Cisco, Reid led a team that developed new data analytics technologies to detect and remediate advanced cybersecurity threats. He also created and led Cisco's Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), a global organization of information security professionals responsible for 24/7 monitoring, investigation and response to cybersecurity incidents. Reid spearheaded the CSIRT's adoption of Lancope's StealthWatch® System, enabling the team to forensically monitor traffic patterns in the vast Cisco network to dissect the finer details of security incidents.
Reid currently oversees Lancope's StealthWatch Labs Research Team, which conducts both in-house research and leverages emerging threat information from around the world to help organizations better detect, analyze and remediate advanced security threats. The threat intelligence provided by Reid and the StealthWatch Labs Intelligence Center fuels product innovations across the Lancope StealthWatch platform.
Lancope's StealthWatch System delivers unprecedented network visibility and sophisticated security analytics to enable organizations to more quickly detect insider threats and stealthy external attacks that bypass conventional defenses. Hundreds of enterprise customers around the world rely on Lancope to increase their network and security intelligence for better incident investigation and response.
Lancope will exhibit the StealthWatch System – including its new ProxyWatch™ and PacketWatch™ solutions – at FIRST Conference Booth #3.
