Laclede Gas Earns 2010 Home Builder Award for Its Green-Building Expertise
The Original Green Energy provider received the prestigious award from the St. Louis Regional Chapter of the USGBC
ST. LOUIS, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The St. Louis Regional Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) recently awarded Laclede Gas the 2010 Growing Green Award in the Home Builder category. The Home Builder Award honors those that have embraced sustainable and/or high-performance building. Nominees must demonstrate a commitment to the evolution of green building, promote awareness of the movement and embody the attributes and innovative spirit of a green-building leader.
Laclede, which was recognized for its work in the residential home-building market, helped establish a groundbreaking residential green-building verification program to encourage home builders to implement energy-efficient, environmentally friendly building practices in new-home construction.
"We are extremely proud to receive this award for our green-building verification program and believe it highlights the alternatives available to home builders and homeowners today that are both green and provide benefits to the homeowner now and for the future," said James Hearing, director of marketing for Laclede Gas. "We are working to assist more home builders to participate in the program while also helping homeowners to reduce their carbon footprint, and we believe the success of this program will support that goal."
Laclede's verification program was initially adopted by the Home Builders Association (HBA) of St. Louis and Eastern Missouri in launching and maintaining their Green Building Initiative (GBI). Laclede now provides the engineering evaluation and survey verification for all residential projects submitted to the HBA for rating under the GBI. Currently, the Company has completed verifications on more than 100 homes, with an additional 50 planned for 2010. Laclede has also assisted the National Home Builders Association Research Center in developing a protocol for a national inspection/verification program.
"Our 2009 surge in green-verified homes can be directly credited to Laclede's ability to effectively work with our member participants," said Steve Loos, Senior Staff Vice President for Association Services, HBA of St. Louis & Eastern Missouri. "They actively engage new and existing participants to discuss complex issues related to home verifications at each level in the program."
Laclede Gas Company is a corporate member of the US Green Building Council and supports the U.S. Green Building Council LEED for Homes Program as well. An example of Laclede's commitment to green-building programs is evident through its involvement with the Patrician Place Homes project. Laclede assisted with the planning and verification of this 10-home, new-construction project and developed a sophisticated energy measurement/analysis protocol to monitor energy usage history and fluctuations in indoor temperature and humidity settings.
Laclede Gas Company, the Original Green Energy provider, has provided safe and reliable service to the residents of the St. Louis metropolitan area for more than 150 years. It is the largest gas distribution company in Missouri, serving customers in St. Louis and surrounding counties in Eastern Missouri.
