LA Employment Attorney Carney Shegerian Applauds EEOC's Strong Stance Against Race-based Hiring Discrimination

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Los Angeles employment discrimination attorney Carney Shegerian has issued a statement regarding the recent $1.3 million EEOC settlement of a race discrimination case in Baltimore. The agency alleged that McCormick and Schmidt's Seafood Restaurants, Inc. violated provisions of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by refusing to hire African-Americans in front-of-the-house positions as hosts, hostesses and servers.

The business has declined to admit to the charges of discrimination since 2008 when the EEOC first filed the lawsuit. In addition to the monetary award, restaurant owners have agreed to set EEOC monitored numerical goals for hiring black applicants as part of the two-year consent decree of the settlement.
