L. Ron Hubbard Stories from the Golden Age Audiobooks Receive Top Marks at LA Times Festival of Books
LOS ANGELES, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Amid the largest crowd ever at the LA Times Festival of Books held this past weekend on the UCLA campus, Galaxy Press was on hand surveying the public on a special high-end format audiobook produced for their Stories from the Golden Age line containing over 150 stories written by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1930s and 1940s. (www.goldenagestories.com)
Public of all ages were given a sample of an audiobook to listen to and then surveyed for their response on camera. The audiobooks in the line feature stories from every popular genre, ranging from mystery to adventure, from science fiction to fantasy, as well as western. Despite the wide array of public surveyed, comments were routinely positive and included such statements as: "You get to see more of the picture." "...gives you more scene, more image, so it's really good—I like it." "A lot of enthusiasm. It was captivating." "...more interesting than the typical audiobook." "This is different because it's a production. So you have sound effects, you have multiple voices. It's more like old school radio drama instead of just an audiobook. Way better!"
These, and several more responses, can be seen on the video, Galaxy Press at the LA Times Festival of Books 2010, available at www.youtube.com/goldenagestories
Like other great pulp fiction writers that included names whose characters we have come to appreciate such as Edgar Rice Burroughs (Tarzan), Raymond Chandler (Philip Marlowe), Agatha Christie (Poirot and Miss Marple) and Dashiell Hammett (Sam Spade), L. Ron Hubbard rapidly became a mainstay of popular fiction in the 20th century. However, Hubbard was unlike most authors of the day, as his stories covered a wide spectrum of genres, including adventure, western, mystery, detective, fantasy, science fiction and even some romance, using his own and 15 pen names.
