L & L Energy Announces Former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Norman Mineta as Vice-Chairman of Board of Directors
SEATTLE, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- L & L Energy, Inc., (Nasdaq: LLEN) ("L&L" or the "Company"), a U.S.-based company operating coal businesses in China, announced today that former U.S. Transportation Secretary and Commerce Secretary Norman Y. Mineta has been appointed Vice-Chairman of the Company's Board of Directors. In addition to his Vice-Chair responsibilities, Mr. Mineta will also chair the Company's Nominations Committee. Mr. Mineta is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest award a civilian can receive in the United States.
Under President Bill Clinton, Mr. Mineta became the first Asian Pacific American to hold a cabinet position when he was appointed Secretary of Commerce in 2000. Additionally, he served in President George W. Bush's Cabinet as the United States Secretary of Transportation. Mineta has top-level of political and business connections. His expertise in international commerce and transportation is unparalleled.
As a U.S. Congressman, Mineta represented the Silicon Valley area, connecting him with many of the world's top entrepreneurs and business leaders. He was also the co-founder of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, a bipartisan advocacy organization within the United States Congress committed to promoting international trade between China, the United States, and other Asian countries.
