Kylli, Inc. to begin a year of community conversations for its Democracy Way project
Residents, stakeholders invited to learn about mixed-use vision for north Santa Clara on Jan. 24
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Kylli, Inc. is launching its second year of conversations with the Santa Clara community to shape the vision for a new mixed-use neighborhood in a part of the city undergoing significant transformation.
The community is invited to attend an Open House on Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Central Park Library to learn about Democracy Way—a mixed-use urban neighborhood slated to be built near Levi's Stadium and California's Great America amusement park. Kylli envisions a vibrant new community offering a mix of homes, neighborhood shopping and dining options, offices and open space with easy access to transit and trails.
The Open House begins at 6 p.m., and residents can stop by the library's Margie Edinger Community Room, 2635 Homestead Road, any time until 7:30 p.m. This is Kylli's second year in a series of conversations with neighbors to share ideas and gather input, where residents can also meet the project team and ask questions.
"We see Democracy Way becoming a destination for all residents of the Mission City, and working with neighbors and hearing their thoughts is integral to this process," said Randi Gerson, vice president of real estate development for Kylli. "These discussions help ensure that we're shaping this vision together."
Kylli is proposing 3.65 million square feet of office space, 6,000 housing units (with an affordable component), approximately eight acres of open space, 400,000 square feet of retail, a hotel, and facilities geared toward education and daycare uses. The site will also have an environmentally conscious design and will include a network of paths to encourage walking and biking to cut down on vehicle traffic.
A few dozen Santa Clarans attended an inaugural Open House in May of last year, contributing ideas like a neighborhood grocery store and a child education center. Kylli is seeking more feedback as the project team continues to pencil in the details.
Kylli is scheduling more open house-style events as well as design workshops where residents will weigh in on specific project components and topics like open space, jobs, housing, sustainability and transit. A design workshop dedicated to open space is scheduled for Feb. 7 at 6 p.m., also at the Central Park Library in the Margie Edinger Community Room.
Residents and media interested in attending the Jan. 24 Open House are asked to RSVP via email at [email protected].
