kVA Announces ISO 26262 Training and Certification Schedule for 2013
Demand Grows for Automotive Functional Safety Certification
DETROIT, Mich., Dec. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- kVA, a leader in automotive systems and functional safety, announces an updated 2013 schedule for their popular four-day training session, "Automotive Functional Safety and the ISO 26262 Standard." Training sessions will be held from February 25-28, and again from April 8-11 in Troy, Michigan. The training is provided by kVA in collaboration with TÜV Nord, the globally recognized safety group headquartered in Germany.
Through the training, kVA and TÜV Nord continue to offer certification as a Functional Safety Certified Automotive Engineer (FSCAE). "We've seen growing demand for FSCAE certification in the USA" said Bill Taylor , Managing Partner of kVA. "Certification shows proof of skills and competence, and makes a statement that your company is serious about functional safety." The certification can be obtained by attending the full 4-day training session, and then passing the optional certification exam on the 5th day.
The ISO 26262 standard describes management of Functional Safety as the essential basis for the development of safety-relevant electronics in passenger vehicles. The training is provided in three sequential sessions, including: (1) Functional Safety Management, (2) System and Hardware Development, and (3) Software Development. Participants may choose one or all of the sessions; only participants in all three sessions will be candidates for the FSCAE certification.
The FSCAE qualification is valid for two years. By attending a follow-up workshop and successfully passing an examination, the qualification can be extended another two years. Further certification as a Functional Safety Certified Automotive Manager (FSCAM) can be achieved by individuals demonstrating working on relevant safety projects for at least the past 4 years and successfully pass a qualification audit by TÜV Nord.
Training participants will also be provided a USB stick containing a unique FMEDA-Workbench database tool. This tool, developed exclusively by TÜV Nord, streamlines FMEDA analysis in accordance with ISO 26262 principles. For example, the tool determines component failure rates as defined by the IEC 62380 standard, and then computes the hardware architectural metrics required by ISO 26262 clauses 5-8 and 5-9.
The training seminar is designed to be flexible, allowing for specific training sessions for managers, software developers, and hardware developers. Participants of the full training session will receive:
• A full copy of the training slides including multiple example exercises;
• Certification as a Functional Safety Certified Automotive Engineer (pending successful completion of the examination);
• The complete FMEDA-Workbench tool developed exclusively by TUV NORD, allowing for the execution of FMEDAs and calculations of failures according to the ISO 26262;
