Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister Supports Environmental Initiative
KUWAIT CITY, March 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kuwait has allocated funds for new environmental initiatives directed by the Environment Public Authority (EPA). Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, as Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Environment, is patron of the program.
According to the EPA, the new plan includes: an environment inspection system; construction of a legislative frame of the complete environment directory; controlling emissions produced by main sources; observing and supervising the marine environment using radar; evaluating the coral reef situation; producing a regional environmental program; conducting a field survey, counting pollution-related measures; and biodiversity in natural reservations.
"These initiatives prove Kuwait's comprehensive commitment to the environment," Sheikh Jaber said. "By continuing to implement new environmental programs, we help ensure our children will grow up in a Kuwait that continues to enjoy clean air, clean water and a bright future."
Sheikh Jaber has long been a champion of the environment. Under his patronage, the REUSE 4.0 Exposition brought premier creative sustainable thinking practices and ideas to Kuwait. It showcased a modern blend of eco-conscious art, music, and technology. Complete with mixed media installations, trendy eco-fashion goods and other game changing sustainable products, the Exposition showed Kuwaitis the endless possibilities and benefits of making this cultural shift toward sustainable living.
Under Sheikh Jaber's support, Kuwait also hosted the GCC's committees on wildlife natural habitat protection and environmental coordination for a series of events and meetings last October. In that time, senior environmental officials throughout the GCC met to discuss critical issues, such as climate change and its potential impact on the region.
