KRG Representative Informs Americans of Kurdistan Region's Continued Development
Talabani Tells America to be Proud of Progress in Kurdistan Region
ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Highlighting the enormous progress made in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq since the country's liberation in 2003, the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Representative to the United States, Qubad J. Talabani, yesterday stressed that Americans should be proud of where Iraqi Kurdistan is today. He further lauded the Obama Administration's decision to deepen and broaden relations with the Kurdistan Region through opening a consulate in Erbil, the capital of the Region.
"The Kurdistan Region of Iraq is a thriving secular, civil society, with an emerging democracy, within a turbulent part of the world. We are proud of the direction we are heading in, and our American friends should be as well," said Representative Talabani.
Addressing students and faculty at the University of Central Florida (UCF), Representative Talabani noted that since Iraq's liberation, the investment licenses granted by the Investment Board of the KRG for projects in housing, banking, industry, tourism, education, agriculture, communications, and health service have amounted to nearly $13 billion.
Representative Talabani's visit to Orlando, Florida was organized by The Global Perspectives office at UCF. Global Perspectives today administers one of the United States' first Kurdish political studies initiatives. During his two-day visit, the Representative also met with Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL 8th) and addressed influential political and business leaders at a forum hosted by Orlando's Foreign Relations Council.
"It is very important to get beyond Washington, DC to inform Americans all over the country about the significant progress being made in Kurdistan -- which is in large part due to the sacrifice of the American people," Representative Talabani said. "We further must highlight the important role the leaders of the Kurdistan Region are playing to build a viable, federal democracy in all of Iraq."
