KPMG Deepens New York Start-Up Presence Through Sponsorship With WeWork Labs
The firm's Innovation Team and Venture Capital practice to take space in SoHo office; KPMG named as the exclusive global professional services firm sponsor of WeWork Labs
NEW YORK, Oct. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- KPMG – the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm – has entered into a sponsorship agreement with WeWork Labs (WeWork) – a fast-growing national community of innovative creators – that includes taking space within WeWork's SoHo-based New York facility for the firm's New York Innovation Team and Venture Capital practice. In this role, KPMG's New York Venture Capital practice will further expand its outreach within the growing venture capital ecosystem in New York City.
"This initiative will help us connect even more with the venture capital and start-up communities, be closer to the pulse of market disruption, as well as provide an innovative environment and culture for our Innovation Teams," said Steve Hill, Vice Chair of Strategic Investments for KPMG.
With the agreement, KPMG becomes WeWork Labs' exclusive global professional services firm sponsor. Taking space in the SoHo-based facility embeds the firm within the rapidly expanding technology ecosystem, where its professionals can advise other WeWork members through open-office hour sharing sessions; host educational, networking and social events; and provide thought leadership on relevant trends that are impacting the start-up community through WeWork publications and channels.
"This bold initiative gives KPMG the opportunity to deepen its commitment within the fabric of the start-up community," said Brian Hughes, National Leader of KPMG's Venture Capital Practice. "Our local Venture Capital practice – led by Sal Melilli – will work closely with entrepreneurs to bring them the full breadth of resources, technical expertise and stewardship that KPMG has to offer. Our enhanced presence will encourage our passionate and entrepreneurial-minded professionals to continue to provide an unmatched level of expertise and service. We are also excited to provide our professionals with a more creative and collaborative working environment."
"KPMG has always embraced the entrepreneurial community and our agreement with WeWork Labs demonstrates how serious the firm is in its commitment in this growing segment of the New York City economy," said Bob Garrett, KPMG's New York office managing partner. "By sponsoring WeWork Labs, KPMG is awarded the opportunity to give back to this same community of innovators, disruptors and luminaries who we view as the next generation of Fortune 500 leaders."
While KPMG leverages the physical space at WeWork's SoHo-based New York facility, the firm will also have access to WeWork's full portfolio of resources nationwide. Going forward, KPMG plans to expand its outreach into other WeWork networks throughout the country – including Boston, Washington, D.C., Seattle, San Francisco and others.
