NEW YORK, May 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time, one of New York's most celebrated festivals, City Parks Foundation's SummerStage, takes on a Korean twist as the Korean Cultural Center New York and SummerStage proudly present Korea GAYOJE (meaning 'music festival') blending Korean sounds with glam rock, contemporary world music, and hip hop on Monday, June 26th, from 6 to 10 pm at Central Park's Rumsey Playfield (doors open at 5 pm).
Korean artists take stage for an evening with a lineup featuring groups who exemplify the focus of SummerStage: music, diversity, and community. Open to the public and free for all, the program features Coreyah, SsingSsing, and Year of the OX. "It's very exciting to present this lineup of Korea's most exciting artists at SummerStage," says Hyo Han, Performing Arts Director at KCCNY. "[The program] presents how eclectic and bold Korean music is, and showcases the lively range of sounds by these impressive artists."
The evening begins with Coreyah, a band that fuses Korean folkloric sounds with global music, then SsingSsing, who was selected as "one of top discoveries from globalFEST 2017" by NPR for their "very glam, very rock and roll" performance. The headline set is Year of the OX, a Korean-American rap duo who incorporates elements of hardcore with lyrical flow.
