Korea Holds the first 'World Smartcity Week'

SEOUL, South Korea, Sept. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) and the Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister You Young-min) of South Korea held the first 'World Smartcity Week (WSCW)' at Korea KINTEX, Ilsan from Sep. 4 to 8, 2017.

Events specifically designed for domestic and overseas urban experts, companies, local governments and the public took place. Smart cities Innovation Summit Asia, Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference, and International Conference on Urban Regeneration were held concurrently during the week.

In particular, international organizations including World Bank and UN-Habitat, global companies such as IBM, MS, etc., overseas scholars and domestic and foreign experts shared international trends on smart city development and good examples of global smart city strategies.

At the events for companies and local governments, practical support was provided including the promotion of companies and expansion of investment network in line with the smart city industry development and strengthened cooperation with local governments.

A selection of excellent companies, business exhibitions and investor relations was made available at the Smartcity Business Fair for SMEs and startups in the smart city industry. Awards were given to excellent solutions applied to domestic and overseas cities. Award winners were invited to share good practices at the Smartcity Service Awards.

In addition, WSCW awards were given for six different contests. The Public contest was held to inform that smart city is a policy closely related to our lives for solving daily problems and gather ideas from the public to incorporate them into government policies. Outstanding works were honoured with awards and the opportunity of being displayed during the week.

Officials and buyers from developing countries interested in knowing the urban development of Korea participated in a tour program, getting to understand the idea of smart city from the perspectives of humanity, technology and art.
