KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- KONE, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has won an order to provide 13 elevators for The University of Kansas Hospital Cambridge North Tower expansion project. The building is scheduled to open in 2017.
KONE solutions will include nine KONE EcoSystem MR™ elevators and four KONE MonoSpace® elevators.
The KONE EcoSystem MR™ elevator needs only half the overhead machine room space of traditional traction elevators. This solution provides superior ride quality while adhering to an energy-efficient design that accommodates buildings of up to roughly 60 floors. The KONE MonoSpace® elevator is a revolutionary machine room-less solution that uses no oil, consumes less energy and creates more usable real estate for building owners.
The University of Kansas Hospital's new, 300,000 square-foot tower will be located at 39th and Cambridge streets, northeast of the existing hospital buildings. The expansion will add 92 beds, 28 of which will be for intensive care units, and 12 operating rooms. The building will house neurosciences, surgical oncology and include imaging, lab and pharmacy facilities.
"We're proud to work with The University of Kansas Hospital on its exciting new expansion," said Larry Wash, Executive Vice President for KONE Americas. "Such a prestigious institution in the Midwest, nationally-ranked in all 12 medical and surgical specialties, deserves vertical transportation solutions that are also award winning. We're honored to provide safe and smart flow of people throughout the hospital's new tower."
